Express Entry in Canada
Canadian Government Launched an Electronic Immigration System in January 2015 which offers Express Entry to Skilled and Qualified Immigrants in Canada. Immigrants who wish to obtain Permanent Residency can apply under the Express Entry Program
Each Year Thousands of immigrants apply for Permanent Residency. The Canadian Government has provided a path to skilled workers to help stay in Canada and boost the economic growth of the country. The Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) select skilled and qualified immigrants under Federal Economic Immigration Programs such as:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
- The Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Federal Skilled Worker
Work experience:
- at least one year (1,560 hours total / 30 hours per week), continuous full-time or an equal amount in part-time,
- paid work (volunteer work, unpaid internships do not count),
in the same job, - within the last 10 years, and
- at skill type 0, or skill levels A or B of the 2011 NOC
Language ability:
- meet the minimum language level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7, and
- take a language test approved by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) that shows you meet the level for speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Education:
- a Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree,
- OR
- a completed foreign credential, and
- an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from an agency approved by CIC. [The report must show your foreign education is equal to a completed Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree.]
Six selection factors:
A 100-point grid used to assess federal skilled workers. This means you earn points for how well you do in each of the six factors. The current pass mark is 67 points.
- your skills in English and/or French (Canada’s two official languages),
- your education,
- your work experience,
- your age,
- whether you have a valid job offer, and
- your adaptability (how well you are likely to settle here).
Federal Skilled Trades
Eligibility:
- plan to live outside the province of Quebec (Note: The province of Quebec selects its own skilled workers. If you plan on living in Quebec, see Quebec-selected skilled workers for more information),
- meet the required levels in English or French for each language ability (speaking, reading, writing, and listening),
i: meet the minimum language level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for speaking and listening, and Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 for reading and writing, and
ii: take a language test approved by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) that shows you meet the level for speaking, listening, reading and writing. - have at least two years of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time work experience) in a skilled trade within the five years before you apply,
- meet the job requirements for that skilled trade as set out in the National Occupational Classification (NOC), except for needing a certificate of qualification, and
- have an offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade
Canadian Experience Class
Eligibility:
- have at least 12 months of full-time (or an equal amount in part-time) skilled work experience in Canada in the three years before you apply,
- have gained your experience in Canada with the proper authorization,
- meet the required language levels needed for your job for each language ability (speaking, reading, writing, and listening),
- plan to live outside the province of Quebec.
- Self-employment and work experience gained while you were a full-time student (for example, on a co-op work term) do not count under this program.
- To be considered for the Canadian Experience Class, you need to have
Canadian skilled work experience within three years of applying. According to the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC), skilled work experience means:
i. Managerial jobs (NOC skill level 0)
ii. Professional jobs (NOC skill type A)
iii. Technical jobs and skilled trades (NOC skill type B)
- Your experience must be at least 12 months of full-time (30 hours of paid work per week or more) or an equal amount in part-time hours.
- There is no education requirement for the Canadian Experience Class.
Language ability:
- meet the minimum language level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 for NOC 0 or A jobs OR Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for NOC B jobs, and
- take a language test approved by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) that shows you meet the level for speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
How Express Entry Works?
- Interested Candidates fill out the Express Entry form online
- The Government sends invites to the successful Candidates to apply for Permanent Residency. This process usually takes around 4-6 months
- Candidate receive an ITA (Invitation to Apply)
